Accessibility
Last updated: October 28, 2026
She Builds Within should be comfortable to read for everyone, however you browse. Accessibility is also part of my everyday work as a developer, so I try to hold this site to the same standard I use for my clients.
The goal
I aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What’s already built in
- Full keyboard navigation, a visible focus outline and a “Skip to content” link.
- Readable contrast in both the dark and light theme. The theme follows your device setting and can be switched anytime.
- Animations can be paused anytime with the ❚❚ button in the bottom-left corner, and they stop automatically if you turn on “reduce motion” in your system (including the opening animation and the flashlight hero).
- Search opens with ⌘K / Ctrl K or the / key and works fully with the keyboard.
- In every essay you can make the text larger, use Focus mode, or have the essay read aloud with “Listen”.
- The custom butterfly cursor appears only with a mouse; your normal cursor returns in every form field.
- Clear headings, labelled form fields and descriptive links.
Known limitations
- Some older essays and images may still be missing detailed alternative text. I’m updating them.
- Content from other services (like Pinterest images or payment pages) is outside my control.
Tell me if something doesn’t work
If anything on this site is hard to use with your device, browser or assistive technology, please write to me at shebuildswithin.blog@gmail.com. Tell me the page and what happened. I read every message and will try to fix it or send you the content in another format.
